How to properly apply sunscreen

Kelly Wolff, LE I often see parents at my pool applying their children's sunscreen as they are running into the water. Sunscreen, like all products, has directions of how to apply on the back label. The cdc recommends applying a broad spectrum sunscreen approximately 30 minutes before being in the sun (for best results) so that it can be absorbed by the skin and less likely to wash off when you perspire or swim. Sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours on dry skin.
I personally use either Blue Lizard Baby sunscreen (sold at Harris Teeter) or Neutrogena Baby sunscreen on my children and myself when going to the pool. Blue Lizard has a high concentration of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Both ingredients are considered a physical sunblock that reflects or absorbs the UVB and UVA rays. Titanium and zinc oxide are t not irritating and more compatible with sensitive skin than chemical sunscreens.
