Skinpen II Micro-needling
SKINPEN MICRO-NEEDLING | CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA
The SkinPen II Micro-needling system is now here at Evolve!
Micro-needling is a procedure that involves using a pen-like device with a disposable tip of tiny needles to aerate the skin. The channels created in the skin has many restorative and enhancement benefits such as a more effective way to infuse products into the deeper skin layers. Other benefits of micro-needling:
- Accomplishes the same result as other procedures that require downtime (i.e. ablative lasers) with no harmful or painful side effects
- Stimulates collagen growth
- Enhances other products or treatments being used
- Improves thickness and durability of the skin
- Can reduce wrinkles
- Can reduce acne scarring and discoloration
Four major phases of physiological wound response help in stimulating new healthy tissue growth.
The depth of the SkinPen needles can be adjusted from .25 mm up to 2.5 mm in length. This variability allows the SkinPen provider to adjust treatments based on the patient’s skin thickness as well as need (e.g., more penetration required for acne scarring).
First, an inflammatory response (1-3 days), to the initial injury promotes the chemotaxis response and proliferation of fibroblasts. The body’s platelets also respond to initiate a wound matrix. This response is the early phase of cell migration to remove debris and bacteria and stimulate the next proliferative phase.
During the second phase (3-5 days), the new fibroblasts, monocytes, keratinocytes of the first phase continue to proliferate and multiply. New collagen will be laid down and deposited with new tissue formation.
Third, a fibrotic response (5-20 days), of growth factors are released and fibroblasts release collagen.
Fourth, the maturation stage of new healthy skin takes place from day 28 to two years after treatment. Collagens mature and stiffen and the matrix of new tissue shows 80% to full tensile strength.
