One of our most popular aesthetic treatments is BOTOX® Cosmetic, for facial wrinkles and folds. When applied by experts like our medical professionals at Evolve, BOTOX® is a safe, effective way to look naturally more youthful and refreshed.

About BOTOX
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a highly purified form of botulinum toxin that is used to treat dynamic wrinkles, which are wrinkles that form when facial muscles contract, and it is a proven treatment supported by more than thirty years of studies worldwide.
BOTOX® is derived from the bacterium that is directly associated with botulism, but it has effective medical and cosmetic uses. Its cosmetic form is used to treat age lines or wrinkles, but medically it’s used to address health problems such as dystonia (a disorder that causes involuntary muscle contractions), excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), and migraine headaches, to name a few.
As a cosmetic treatment, BOTOX® is injected into the skin in very small, safe amounts to selectively block the function of certain facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. BOTOX® isn’t used for static wrinkles, which are those present when the muscles of the face are not moving, but it can help prevent them from forming by keeping the muscles relaxed.
The History of BOTOX®
Although researchers started experimenting with botulinum toxin as early as the 1970s, BOTOX® was first approved by the FDA in 1989 as a medical treatment for blepharospasm (uncontrollable blinking) and strabismus (misaligned eyes), and was approved to treat cervical dystonia, a neurological disorder that causes severe shoulder and neck muscle contractions, in 2000.

The results of earlier research and treatment showed that BOTOX® could also be used to treat wrinkles caused by muscle activity. In 2002, BOTOX® was approved as a cosmetic treatment, and in 2004, it was approved as a treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) for patients who did not respond to topical prescription drugs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is BOTOX® Right for ME?
BOTOX® isn’t the right choice for everyone, but it depends entirely on the individual’s needs and goals. BOTOX® injections should be avoided if you have certain neuromuscular diseases, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and while taking certain medications like antibiotics and blood thinning agents.
When you come to Evolve Medical Associates for your BOTOX® consultation, we’ll discuss your concerns and medical history in-depth to ensure that BOTOX® is right for you. If it’s not, we’ll adapt our individualized treatment plan and come up with another solution that fits your unique needs.
Do BOTOX® Injections Have Side Effects or Downtime?
Side effects from BOTOX® can occasionally occur, but they are only temporary, such as bruising at the injection site. Some patients have reported a mild headache after injection, as well as numbness and tingling. However, these symptoms wear off within the next day or so. Most patients return to their daily routine right away.
How Long Does BOTOX® Last?
Your first BOTOX® injection will typically only last three to four months, as it is injected into strong, thick muscle that has not been treated before. At subsequent sessions, the muscle is smaller and weaker (since it has not been used) and your injections may last longer.
When we craft your treatment plan, we’ll be able to determine how often you’ll need BOTOX® injections, as well as their exact placement and amount, to give you a better idea of how long it will last.
