BOTOX® Alternatives
in Charlotte
BOTOX® is an injectable made of botulinum toxin, backed by more than three decades of research supporting its safe use for both medical and cosmetic purposes. BOTOX® is used to treat dynamic facial wrinkles, which are wrinkles that form due to facial movements such as smiling and squinting, by relaxing the contracting muscles and causing the wrinkles to smooth out.
Dysport®, XEOMIN®, and Jeuveau® are likewise made with botulinum toxin and treat the same facial concerns as BOTOX®, including:
– Vertical frown lines between the eyebrows
– Horizontal lines across the forehead
– Wrinkles at the outer corners of the eyes (“crow’s feet”)
However, there are a few key differences between these treatments.

What is Dysport® Treatment?
Dysport® is more diluted than BOTOX®. Due to the smaller particle size of Dysport®, it also spreads out more, which means that less injections may be needed for larger areas like the forehead. Dysport® is also especially effective at treating frown lines between the eyebrows and tends to take effect sooner than BOTOX® and XEOMIN®, making it a good choice for patients seeking fast results.

What is XEOMIN® Treatment?
XEOMIN® is sometimes called “naked BOTOX®” because it doesn’t have the same protein additives as BOTOX® and Dysport®. XEOMIN® is a “pure” form of botulinum toxin and therefore, patients are less likely to develop antibodies that prevent XEOMIN® from being effective. This also makes XEOMIN® a preferable choice for long-term BOTOX® users who may have developed antibody resistance.

What is Jeuveau® Treatment?
Jeuveau® is also made with botulinum toxin A and is almost identical to BOTOX®, with one exception: Jeuveau® was created specifically for cosmetic purposes, while BOTOX® is used both for aesthetic and medical reasons. As the newest FDA Approved neurotoxin, Jeuveau® is a safe and effective treatment whose benefits are still being explored.

Frequently Asked Questions
Some of the most common questions we’re asked about Dysport®, XEOMIN®, and Jeuveau® include:
Are Dysport®, XEOMIN®, or Jeuveau® Right for Me?
When you come to Evolve Medical Associates for your consultation, we’ll sit down with you and review your medical history, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals and concerns to determine if Dysport® or XEOMIN® are the right choice for you.
Are Dysport®, XEOMIN®, and Jeuveau® Safe?
Yes! All three treatments are very safe. The FDA approved Dysport® in 2009, XEOMIN® in 2011, and Jeuveau® in 2019. Like all injectables, Dysport®, XEOMIN®, and Jeuveau® are safest when administered by experienced professionals like our experts at Evolve.
What is the Difference Between Neurotoxins and Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers treat wrinkles instantly by filling them out from within the skin, making them a better option for static wrinkles — that is, wrinkles that remain even when the facial muscles are not contracted. By contrast, neurotoxins like BOTOX®, Dysport®, XEOMIN®, and Jeuveau® relax specific facial muscles to address dynamic wrinkles in those areas.
However, since dynamic wrinkles often become static wrinkles over time, neurotoxins can be used as a preventative measure as well, as they cause the wrinkles to soften gradually by stopping the associated facial muscles from contracting. Both types of treatment provide temporary improvement and must be repeated periodically to maintain results.
What Can I Expect from Treatment?
At Evolve, we perform Dysport®, XEOMIN®, and Jeuveau® treatments in our office using a short, thin needle. Based on your consultation, our experts will make these injections into very precise areas of the face to give you natural-looking results.
After treatment, you can return to your regular daily activities with no downtime. The lines and wrinkles in the treated areas will gradually begin to fade approximately two to three days after Dysport® and Jeuveau® treatments, and within five to seven days for XEOMIN®.
Improvements from all three treatments last about three to four months and can be maintained with regular touch-ups. At your consultation, we’ll go over what your follow-up treatments will look like and adjust how often you may need them based on your goals.
