PDO Threads Explained
PDO stands for polydioxanone, an absorbable suture that has been used for wound closure in surgeries for over 30 years. PDO threads are barbed threads which are carefully and strategically placed beneath the skin under the direction of our founder and medical director, Dr. Sudy.
These barbs anchor in beneath the skin and slowly dissolve over the course of several weeks. Their presence stimulates the production of collagen, creating profound results while minimizing downtime.

Frequently Asked Questions
Some of the most common questions we’re asked about MINT™ PDO lifts include:
How Do PDO Lifts Work?
PDO lifts work by stimulating collagen production to promote skin elasticity and texture and improve the appearance of fine lines and scars, but their strategic placement means that they also provide an instant lift, immediately giving you a younger, refreshed look! There are several types and sizes of PDO threads, which our team will customize to your individual needs.
Different threads provide different degrees of lift, skin tightening, and cellular rejuvenation. Depending on the area you’re having treated, for example, you may receive a different number of threads. Your treatment will be customized to address your unique skin type, structure, and aesthetic goals.
Which Areas Can a PDO Thread Lift Treat?
Since the amount, size, and type of threads used will be tailored to your needs and preferences, a PDO thread lift is an extremely versatile treatment. It can be performed on any area of the face, including the neck, jowls, jawline, crow’s feet, undereye area, eyebrows, cheeks, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines.
Are PDO Thread Lifts Safe?
Our PDO threads have a track record of safety spanning over a decade, and they cause minimal trauma to the skin. In fact, MINT™ PDO threads specifically are backed by more than six years of clinical studies, and they are the first and only PDO sutures to have received two FDA approvals.
What Can I Expect During A PDO Thread Lift?
We administer a local anesthetic to the treatment site to ensure you feel no discomfort. Once the anesthetic has taken effect, we meticulously insert the PDO threads into the appropriate layers of skin via blunt-tipped needles called cannulas, which act as anchors to lift the skin upwards.
How Long Does Treatment Take?
Treatment usually takes about an hour. There is minimal pain involved due to the anesthesia, and there are typically very few side effects to MINT™ PDO, besides some initial bruising, dimpling, and swelling that will subside within a week.
